How to Make a Tea Latte (plus two of my fav recipes)

Friends, lattes are not just for coffee!

In my previous life I was a marketing coordinator/social media manager for a large online retailer of bulk herbs and teas. Part of my job was coordinating weekly blog posts. And part of that part of the job was writing new content for the blog. Probably my favorite part of the job. I wrote a post on tea lattes back then and I thought you might enjoy an interruption of the usual content on here for some tea latte recipes. Are you craving something warm and frothy, but not quite up for coffee today? If so, then you’re welcome in advance.

Pippy says “Cheers!”

What is a tea latte? A tea latte is a latte made with tea instead of espresso. A tea latte can be made from black, green, white, or herbal tea in any flavor – sipper’s choice! Tea lattes are frothed with your favorite milks (plant milks or dairy) and can be infused with healthful spices and oils such as coconut oil if you like your lattes rich.

How to make any kind of tea latte in 5 simple steps:

Make your own signature lattes that are uniquely you with this simple, flexible process:

  1. Start with your favorite, hot-brewed tea (green, black, herbal – you name it!). Peppermint is my favorite. Pour hot brewed tea into blender.
  2. Add a little organic oily substance to make it richer. Some favs include organic coconut oil and organic almond butter.
  3. Sprinkle in powdered herbs or spices for flavor and health. Get creative by adding organic botanicals like sweet cinnamon, vibrant turmeric, or earthy cacao.
  4. Blend in blender or with blender wand until frothy.
  5. Immediately, pour into a mug and enjoy!

Peppermint Tea Latte:

Makes 2 lattes

Go get…

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 4-5 teaspoons of dried peppermint leaf or 2 peppermint tea bags
  • 1/4 cup full fat, organic coconut milk (or almond milk)*
  • 2-3 tablespoons raw organic honey (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon organic virgin coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon organic vanilla extract
  • Pinch of pink sea salt

Do it:

  1. Add the tea (in a teaball or teabag) to boiling water and allow to steep covered for 3-5 minutes.
  2. Carefully strain the tea into a blender.
  3. Add remaining ingredients to blender and blend tea until frothy.
  4. Pour into mugs and enjoy!

Turmeric+Ginger Tea Latte:

The Turmeric+Ginger tea latte is the lighter version of golden milk. It’s still packed with the benefits of turmeric and ginger, but verges closer to a milky tea than to a straight up golden milk.

Makes 2 lattes

Go get…

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 turmeric ginger tea bags
  • 1/4 cup full fat, organic coconut milk (or almond milk)*
  • 2-3 tablespoons raw organic honey (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon organic virgin coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon organic vanilla extract
  • Pinch of pink sea salt

Do it:

  1. Add the tea bags to boiling water and allow to steep covered for 3-5 minutes.
  2. Carefully strain the tea into a blender.
  3. Add remaining ingredients to blender and blend tea until frothy.
  4. Pour into mugs and enjoy!

*I prefer Trader Joe’s or Whole Food’s 365 brand. It’s a good idea to check the cans to ensure the linings used in them are BPA free!
