Unsteady Uproot – “Texas Winter” (Monday, February 10th)

Happy Monday, lovelies!

I have just slathered my face with one of my favorite charcoal masks so while I wait for my face to harden I thought I would pop on here for a minute. I seriously hope no one is one here for some thought out, properly grammar-tized posts…cuz I gotta be honest. I write all day for work and all evening for school and my caringness level for perfection is just real low. (I have a scavenger hunt for you: count the number of time I use the word just in this post)

Honestly…I’m kinda avoiding my homework for a minute. I have three exams looming and I feel like all I do is study stuff I can’t seem to remember and don’t really understand, which sure is discouraging after a few weeks.

ANYWAY. We are having the Texas version of winter outside, which means it’s in the forties, and the wind makes your hair stick to your lipgloss, and it pours rain for days. I did go one a brief walk tonight, but rain and glasses do not mix so here we are inside again. If you do not already have a glass or mug of some liquid beside you then I highly reccommend that you stop what you are doing and go get said favorite drink becuase we all know we have all had long days no matter where you are or what kind of life you lead. (Plus, everyone should drink more of their favorite things anyway!)

My current obsession is a peppermint tea latte which involves a strong brewed peppermint tea base. Then add some milk, a splash of cream, and a dribble of maple syrup to a frother and froth until hot, thicc, and delicious. Pour that into your minty tea and enjoy! I have been drinking these at work and – lemme tell ya – they help stress.

Speaking of work – I am so incredibly blessed by my work friends. We all sit in what we affectionately call “The Bullpen” (and that TV show reference belongs to…?”) so all of our desks face inwards in an amoeba-like shape so we can all see each other as we work. We work our butts off, yes. But we also laugh and talk and do stuff outside of work. And because of the nature of our work we are constantly collaborating with each other on our projects, so I never feel like I’m working alone on my own little island. My project manager is one of my friends AND she sits at the desk right next to me so it’s great because I feel like our team is a team not some hierarchy of management and peons. Did I also mention that we have an office dog, too?

We have an office dog. He’s a Blue Lacy. And his name is Otis.

I’m seeing a new Physical Therapist tomorrow morning, so that’s fun. I’m pretty pumped. He comes highly recommended in the community and somehow I landed an app with him instead of one of his underlings (he owns the practice). With any luck he’ll be the one doctor who will be willing to really work with me on this hypermobile joint issue that I’ve got going one. Per the usual, I have written out a list of all of the things I want to discuss with him in order of significance.

Something I’m loving right now is this Creamy Roasted Red Pepper Soup by the Minimalist Baker. Dude, I made a pot of this last week and I have been eating it with grilled cheese sandwiches made from Ezekiel Bread and cheddar cheese. The soup is tomato-y and herby and creamy, and the sandwich is so crusty and buttery and cheesy. So good. 10/10 would recommend. Also, so worth the heartburn afterwards. Would not recommend enjoying this with OJ, though, otherwise your heartburn will be outta this world. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Gotta hit the shower. My skin is saying it’s had enough mask.

P.S. I’ll be sharing some pics of slides that I took in lab soon. I’m considering getting some of them framed…
